Driveway Replacement Project
Good morning everyone, Andrew from S&D Paving here in Epsom Surrey. So we just started our new job, this is a Tobermore block paving driveway project. We are in Chessington South. As you can see we’ve just arrived and we’ve got a digger on site and on this job we are going to remove these, which were two old tracks from the 1970s.
The customer extended it with some slabs as a walkway so we’re getting rid of all that. We’re doing a full excavation and the grab truck will be here as well. We’re going right down to the front door. We’re going to remove all this concrete, everything underneath. A full 300 dig out right down to the side gate. So we’re excavating all the old concrete and we’re replacing this all with a new block paving driveway from Tobermore.
Complete Driveway Excavation
Just an update on our Chessington driveway. We’ve now had our excavation done. We’ve had our grab truck here. We’ve got rid of all our old concrete driveway which has gone to be recycled and what we have here is the remnants of another concrete driveway. This has gone to our recycle yard.
This has been crushed through a crusher and it’s been brought back as a base hard core. So under this you’ve got your geotextile membrane which protects from your weeds and your ground stabilisation.
Tobermore Driveway Installation
Then we’ve got crushed concrete laid on top. So what we’re waiting for now is a delivery of our MOT, Type 1 sub base to come to go on top of this and then we have our laying course of sand and our bricks. As you can see on that front, we still have 200mm left to build up. We’ve just put in 100mm of Type 1 crush, Type 1 and Type 2 actually.
That’s it for now, I’ll give you an update probably tomorrow or later on the job as the blocks are going down. It’s a beautiful June morning – we’ve got full sunshine out. So just giving you an update on our job in Chessington. As you can see, our front kerb has been put in, and our blocks have been laid, our edges have all been laid on cement and haunched as you can see.
I just thought I’d do you a little update and then I’ll do you a final one tomorrow once we’ve got a rotavator in and rotavated all this soil, took all the rubbish out of there and got some nice fresh soil in. As you can see we’ve got a recessed manhole cover here done beautifully. The customers asked us for a little extra on the job but we didn’t charge for it.
Originally our driveway was supposed to go straight down and step in square. We thought by adding a curve it would definitely make for a better job which it has. So the guys have incorporated a beautiful curve, cut in very nicely as you can see, right in some nice beautiful angular cuts, well done by Alton.
As you can see from the step if you have a look the water falls down and into our drainage channel here which is connected into where the downpipe goes and it runs through to finish on the side gates which we’ve trimmed the bottom of. We’re well below the DPC on this job so no issues at all with damp. That’s it for now and I’ll give you an update later on the job when it’s all done.
New Turf Lawn
I’m just back on our Chessington job to do the final video for you. So we’ve done a Tobermore Pedesta in Heather. We laid a nice new turf lawn to complement the driveway. As you can see it all runs down towards the property. We’ve kept the driveway on a nice fold away from the property. It’s all going into an aqua channel which is piped down under the property into a soakaway.
