A Breakdown Of Our Chessington Project
On a wet October afternoon, the S&D Paving team worked their magic at a property in Chessington. Our client had requested a renovation of both the driveway at the front of the home, as well as the garden in the back.

Out With The Old, In With The New
The initial stages of this project took place in the back garden, where a complete excavation of the patio was required before any other work.
The patio takes up a large percentage of the landscape and therefore needs to be perfect to deliver the aesthetic appeal and functionality our clients desire. By excavating the original patio surface, we were left with a concrete foundation which is ideal for future installation.
To deliver a luxurious and elegant feel to the garden, our clients chose the beautiful London Stone in Candela Grey, which complements the property nicely. This patio was a large part of this Chessington project, as it extended towards the grass and around the side of the property.
From here, it would lead into the beautiful new block paved driveway and front garden.
Our Plan For The Front Garden
This Chessington project is what we refer to as a ‘wraparound’, meaning work was being done in the front and back of the property where it meets in the middle. The new porcelain patio extended around the side of the property and led to the new driveway, which was the next section of our work.
The front garden needed some attention, and our team planned a complete renovation. Along with the new driveway, as requested by our client, we decided to replace the old fence and hedge with a brand-new barrier to complement the property.
As well as installing the new driveway and patio, this Chessington project also included a replacement of the existing drainage system. We would include a recessed manhole cover on the driveway, for a cohesive appearance. This is standard procedure when working with S&D Paving, as we pay attention to every detail.
The driveway leads directly into the road outside of the property, meaning drainage is a big issue. To prevent flooding and standing water, we also proposed installing a new drainage system all around the property, leading to the new wraparound patio.
This new drainage would lead to a soak away, preventing standing water and keeping the driveway in pristine condition.
Fresh Paving For Better Access
The back garden of this Chessington project involved the installation of two patios, with the main one being at the rear of the property. A second patio was installed around the existing summer house, creating a more accessible entrance.
This summer house was at the top end of the back garden and could be accessed by a worn pathway. This was replaced with stunning new porcelain paving, like both patios, to create a complementary, cohesive appearance to the landscape as a whole.
The contrast between the sleek grey paving and the fresh green turf is truly beautiful and ties the whole garden together. To further enhance this appeal, additional work was done on structures in the garden, such as the raised planters. The worn, outdated wood was replaced with sleek, modern concrete and brick to create additional appeal and tie the whole landscape together.
The Finished Result
Following a slight delay as we waited for a specific material to arrive, this Chessington project was finally complete. The new Tubhamore Podesta driveway in slate is a stunning addition to the front of the property, which seamlessly leads into the porcelain patio around the side.
These two surfaces complement the property perfectly due to the stunning contrast between the grey paving and red brick of the home. Our clients do not have to worry about ongoing maintenance of their new driveway and patio area, as we installed a new drainage system to reduce flooding and standing water.
This drainage system replaced the existing one at the front and rear of the property for maximum coverage.
The back garden is now more accessible for the kids and adults alike, with the fresh patio and retaining wall set-up. The kids can go outside and play directly on the grass due to the slight ramp in the back garden, while adults have access to the bespoke summer house with porcelain paving.
Finishing touches were done through planting, with some rose bushes in the back garden to deliver some colour in the summer as well as some additions to the front garden.
